Application & Environmental Limits

Selecting the right connector requires understanding where standard products apply and where custom engineering is needed. Below are key limitations to consider when specifying Harting connectors.

Operating Temperature Range

Standard catalog connectors are rated for -40°C to +85°C. Applications requiring sustained operation above +85°C (e.g., downhole energy, engine-adjacent automotive) require high-temperature inserts and specialized plating — available as custom orders with extended lead times of 8-12 weeks.

Frequency & Signal Bandwidth

Our standard RF connectors support frequencies up to 18 GHz. Applications in millimeter-wave bands (24-40 GHz) for 5G mmWave or satellite ground stations require waveguide interfaces or specialized coaxial connectors that are outside our standard catalog and sourced through our partner network.

Chemical & Corrosion Exposure

IP67-rated connectors withstand temporary immersion and washdown. However, continuous submersion in salt water (marine subsea), exposure to concentrated acids, or hydrogen sulfide environments requires upgraded housing materials (e.g., 316L stainless steel) that add 30-50% to unit cost and 4-6 weeks to delivery.
